This time in Crete, weather starts to fade in spring, less cloudy days and sun gets warmer. On the road from Heraklion to Rethymno there is an almost coastal small village called Fodele in the middle of a green valley with plane trees and orange groves which are full in fruits this period. A tiny river, called Pantomantris, crosses along the village, with restaurants and cafes on it’s banks, where you can taste traditional cuisine and have a coffee by the view of nature. There is also a park next to the main square which offers a perfect picnic site.

Fodele is known as the birthplace of famous painter Domenikos Theotokopoulos, known as El Greco, back in 1541. Also you can visit his house but there you will find a museum with collection of memorabilia and some displayed reproductions.

Fodele located about 27 km west of Heraklion and 50 km east of Rethymno and has easy access from the highway. Rent a car at crete offers plenty of cars to satisfy your needs for this trip with safety and comfort here.
